Human Trafficking Bill SB14 Blocked
Human Trafficking Bill SB14 Blocked Yesterday, 3Strands Global Foundation’s sponsored bill, SB14, which calls for human trafficking of a minor to be a serious felony, was blocked by the California Assembly Committee on Public Safety. “3Strands Global has been working to end human trafficking for more than 13 years, and we are incredibly disappointed to see that this committee doesn’t consider human trafficking of a minor to qualify as a serious felony,” stated Ashlie Bryant, CEO of 3Strands Global Foundation.SB14 was voted on by the public safety committee yesterday, with two members voting in favor and the remaining six members abstaining. As a result, the bill did not achieve a majority vote and was blocked from advancing. Bryant calls on the assembly members and constituents to take immediate action to reconsider this bill. “Today, we are asking you to join us in letting the public safety assembly members who abstained know of your disappointment and ask them to vote on reconsideration and support SB14,” stated Bryant. With only two days remaining until a one-month recess, Bryant and bill author, State Senator Shannon Grove of the 12th District, hope to see further action to turn around this vote.
